Do you take insurance?

Yes, we take insurance for plans that we are providers for.  For those insurance companies that we are not in-network, many will reimburse you some percentage of the money you spend on therapy. Call your insurance company to ask them how that works and if they will reimburse you for services provided.

How do I know if therapy is needed?

When life becomes unmanageable, therapy might prove to be helpful for you or your child.  People can benefit from therapy in many situations.  When there is a major change in someone’s life, (divorce, death, new parent or sibling) the adjustment may be more than one can handle without some extra support.  Many clients who have been diagnosed with a developmental or learning disorder might benefit from therapy.  Some problems don’t have a sudden onset and gradually get worse over time.  This is often the case with depression and anxiety.  Any time your daily life is affected by the problem, it may be time to seek help.  Many children show behaviors that are not typical: thumb-sucking, bed-wetting, excessive crying, insomnia, abnormal appetite, etc.  Contact us for a free phone consultation to see if counseling would benefit you or your family member.

What happens in a therapy session?

Developing a trusting relationship with you and/or your child is key to a successful therapeutic experience.  Your therapist will spend time getting to know you and your child to create this bond.  For children, a safe place is created through play therapy.  For adolescents and adults, traditional talk therapy is combined with creative interventions.  Your therapist will work with adults and older children to create goals to work towards in therapy.

How often do we meet?

Usually, weekly meetings are preferred to begin therapy.  You and your therapist will discuss the best plan for reaching your goals.  As you move towards reaching goals, sessions may be moved to every other week.  The number of sessions required to reach a goal will vary.  Some clients reach their goals in weeks while others need months or years.  More progress is usually seen when sessions are held on a consistent basis.  Most therapy sessions are 50 minutes.

Do you do night or weekend appointments?

Yes, we will take appointments until 8pm a few nights per week.  Additionally, we will see patients on Saturday mornings a couple times a month.  Feel free to ask for a specific time that you are requesting and we will do our best to accommodate.
